Re: Shady Artists At Magic Clothing Expo
--TROUBLE SOON--
With the Magic Clothing Expo in town, Eminem and D12 held the official jump off party in Las Vegas on Monday for the Shady LTD clothing line as well as the first listen of D12's sophomore release, D12 World (4/27), and it was big . Held at the Venetian Hotel ballroom, Warren and I spun the party, which was catered ridiculously with a full open bar, and several tables of hors d'oeuvres, which were later replaced by gourmet desserts - all there for the purpose of mass consumption by record & clothing industry folk. I couldn't tell if we were at a party or Eminem's wedding, but it was big. Lots of money was spent at this event.
This of course drew the token Shady party characters out, such as Game's Shecky Green with his Hefner-esque entourage of Hip-Hop Honeys, The Boo-Yaa Tribe , who had no problem being the first ones to sample the various hors d'oeuvres, and of course, very *friendly* persons aplenty, who were there, as always, in full force and skimpy clothing.
But all this stuff was just a bonus, people really just came out to watch Eminem and D-12 perform. The performance was typical Eminem stuff, but D12 let concert goers hear a piece of their new album D12 World, which of course was too loud to make any sort of judgment call on. The lead single is pretty interesting, entitled "My Band", a humorous anthem where Eminem and D-Twizzy poke fun at the fact that nobody knows who D12 is. The hook consisted of Em saying "ya'll don't even know the name of my band", with D12 responding "f**k you Marshall ". Each member gets their chance on the mic, however Em steals the show as usual, with book-end verses, totally bugging out at the end of the song (makes the Cactus outfit in the "Purple Pills" video look tame). Not sure if this is how the final version sounds, but it was entertaining. They also performed an average ode to beer called "40 Oz", which honestly was too loud to even rate, and the slightly more interesting "Hoe", where they sample the classic hip-hop response "hoooooo!" (I think the same used on Frankie Cutlass ' "Puerto Rico", prefixed by "Yous a dirty ass (hooooo!), stinkin' ass (hoooooo!), nasty ass (hooooo!); you get the idea. It was cool. Anyway, the album drops 4/27, which is a smart business move considering that everyone's excited about Em's fourth LP dropping at the end of the year. (An even smarter move would be for them to include all of those leaked Eminem tracks from late last year on a bonus disc). I can't say I'm that hyped about D12 World , however, I'll give it a listen. D-12's debut was actually pretty good in my opinion, mainly because it was so tightly knit together by Em. Let's see how round two goes over. - Pizzo
