Eminem Dials Up Ringtones Lawsuit
Eminem's publishing companies recently filed a lawsuit in hopes to stop his songs from being used as mobile phone ringtones.
In the suit filed in Detroit's U.S. District Court yesterday, Michigan-based Eight Mile Style and Martin Affiliated are requesting a court order to forbid five companies from selling Slim Shady song ringtones via the internet.
Em's legal team also revealed that it plans to take legal action against karaoke companies that sell Eminem tracks without official licenses.
"This is a big business," Howard Hertz, one of Em's lawyers, told The Associated Press.
"We're talking hundreds of thousands of dollars a year."
The wireless companies named in the lawsuit are Colorado Cellus USA, Georgia-based FanMobile, New York-based Nextones.com and New Jersey-based MyPhoneFiles and MatrixM LLC.
