Eminem fights for....
In 2001, Eminem fights for his right to perform at the Grammys in the face of gays, lesbians and critics who say his music is offensive and hate-filled. The Detroit rapper received support from his mentor, Dr. Dre, queen of pop, Madonna, and the legendary Stevie Wonder. Dre says, "There is some stuff [on the album] that I don'tthink is appropriate for children, but we're not making recordsfor children, we're not Disney." In a letter to the LA Times, Madonna said "What is the big problem about Eminem? Since when is offensive language a reason for being unpopular? I find the language of George W. Bush much more offensive." Stevie Wonder added his two-cents saying, "...for someone to say [that] him performing is a disgrace to the Grammys...come on! There was a time when blues were called a disgrace. But until we really confront the truth, we are going to have an Eminem or Tupac or Biggie Smalls to remind us about it - and thank God."
