Eminem's ex-wife receives probation in drug case


MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (AP) — Kimberly Mathers, the ex-wife of rapper Eminem, was sentenced Wednesday to two years' probation after pleading guilty to a drug charge and a driving offense, county prosecutors said.Mathers, 28, of Macomb County's Clinton Township, pleaded guilty last month to a charge of possessing 25 grams or less of cocaine and failing to give adequate space to an emergency vehicle. The charges stemmed from a June traffic stop in St. Clair Shores.

In exchange for the guilty pleas, Circuit Judge Edward A. Servitto dismissed a third charge of driving with a suspended license and a charge of maintaining a drug house, said David Portuesi, chief of the drug crimes unit for the prosecutor's office. The latter charge stemmed from a September party at a Warren hotel where police confiscated marijuana and ecstasy.

As conditions of her probation, Mathers may not use alcohol or non-prescription drugs, must undergo random drug testing and must undergo substance abuse evaluation and treatment, Portuesi said.The charges will be dismissed if Mathers successfully completes probation. But Servitto told Mathers he would send her to jail if she violated any of the terms. Portuesi said he didn't know how much time Mathers might spend behind bars if she violated probation, since there are no sentencing guidelines for such a case.

Defense attorney Michael Sinutko did not return a telephone message left at his office Wednesday.
