Re:Eminem Lands On Satellite And Moves Like 'Ali'
Eminem's Shady Records have just joined forces with Sirius Satellite Radio to launch a new Hip-Hop music channel. Meanwhile, the rapper is sparring in the ring to prep for a new film role as a Brooklyn boxer.
Slim, DJ Green Lantern and other Shady artists will host a series of radio shows scheduled to debut this fall. In a statement, Slim revealed his excitement at the artistic freedom offered via satellite radio.
"Once upon a time not too long ago, the Feds wanted all my music off the air," Em said in a statement. "Now we'll be on Sirius 24 hours a day, playing the best hip-hop -- not just from Shady Records, but from everywhere. We'll deliver an uncut hip-hop radio station like never before."
According to Em, the channel will feature content that is usually deemed inappropriate for radio.
"I can't wait to start dropping new material, exclusive tracks and uncensored hip-hop featuring me and everyone else, freely saying whatever the hell we want," Slim revealed.
Eminem's manager, Paul Rosenberg added, "While our channel will not be solely limited to Shady artists, we plan on delivering exclusive, obscure and/or hard to find music from our acts. Also, the channel will give fans further access into our world with live show broadcasts, unique remote interviews and on-air artist segments."
Rosenberg, Slim and Interscope Chairman Jimmy Iovine will executive produce the channel.
In other Eminem news, reports have surfaced that he might follow up his breakthrough role in 8 Mile by playing boxer Dmitry Salita in an upcoming flick tentatively titled "Golden Boy." Salita is a Ukraine born junior welterweight fighter that currently resides in Brooklyn and is still undefeated with 17 wins including 11 by knock out. Slim has reportedly hired heavyweight champion Lenox Lewis' former trainer, Emanuel Steward, to get ready for the part.
"I put him through his paces and I was amazed that he was as good as he was," says Steward. Since then, he's trained regularly and I've put him in the ring with some top-notch sparring partners," Steward revealed. "He's improved enormously. He's aggressive, a real slugger. He moves a lot like Muhammad Ali."
