Kim Mathers to Serve Jail Time
Eminem's ex-wife is out of second chances with a Mt. Clemens judge. Wednesday, Mathers was sentenced to a year in jail for violating probation. 7 Action News had cameras rolling in the courtroom. Judge Servito, of the Macomb Co. Circuit Court, told Mathers, "The abstaining is tantamount to escape. And that's what you've done." Kim Mathers' chances ran out with the judge's patience. After Eminem's ex-wife pleaded guilty to violating her probation again, by leaving a court ordered drug treatment program early, Judge Edward Servito laid down the law. "It is the sentence of this court that you are handed into the custody of the Macomb Co. jail for 365 days." 365 days is twice the sentencing guidelines of 6 months. Judge Servito's ruling brought Mathers and her mother to tears. 7 Action News was present as Mathers' defense attorney, Mike Smith, left the courthouse. When asked if he believed Mathers had been fairly sentences, Smith responded, "Again, the court record speaks for itself." Wednesday's court date was only the latest in a string of court appearances for Mathers, who has one child with her famous ex-husband.
As she turned to her mother to mouth the words "I love you," the judge had some words of his own.
"Miss Mathers," the judge said, "don't screw this up"
