Eminem's Ex Behind Bars Again
Eminem's the poster boy for good behavior--at least compared to his ex.
The rap superstar's former missus, Kim Mathers, found herself back in a Macomb County, Michigan, jail cell Tuesday after violating the terms of her probation by skipping out on a court-mandated drug-treatment program.
"She left the rehab in April and did not return back, so we issued a bench warrant for her," prosecuting attorney Jennifer Adlhoch said Thursday.
Mathers was picked up Tuesday at Weber's Inn hotel in Ann Arbor after police received an anonymous tip of her whereabouts. Upon answering the door, she initially tried to convince the cops she was someone else before finally copping to her real identity.
"She said her name was Julie…but that lasted just a couple of minutes," said Lieutenant Michael Logghe of the Ann Arbor Police Department. "She was very cooperative after the initial faux pas."
Logghe says that officers responding to the all-points-bulletin found no drugs in her room.
Mathers, 28, was arraigned in Macomb the following day on a probation violation and ordered by Judge Edward Servitto to serve the remainder of her original 120-day sentence, which he had suspended on condition she finish rehab.
She already has credit for 46 days served, which means she only has 74 more to go. But because she went AWOL from rehab, the judge may add some more time, says Adlhoch.
Mathers' attorney, Michael Sinutko, could not be reached for comment Thursday.
On Jan. 21, Mathers received the suspended sentence and was placed on two years' probation after pleading guilty to a drug charge and a moving violation.
Mathers was initially busted following a routine traffic stop in June 2003. She failed to yield to an emergency vehicle and was pulled over by cops, who discovered she was driving with a suspended licence. A subsequent search of her Cadillac Escalade however turned up cocaine, leading to a possession charge.
Then in September, Mathers was rung up on separate charges of maintaining a "drug den" after getting busted throwing a cocaine- and Ecstacy-fueled party in a hotel room in suburban Detroit.
Those charges, which could've landed her up to two years in the big house, were dropped by prosecutors in exchange for her guilty plea on the other counts.
Earlier this year, Em's ex tested positive for cocaine during a court-mandated drug test, prompting Servitto to send her back to jail. Bowing to prosecutors' wishes, the judge handed her a combo jail sentence and drug-treatment program, which she ultimately bailed on.
As a result of Mathers' persistent drug problems, Eminem requested and received full custody of the couple's seven-year-old daughter, Hailie Jade.
Kim Mathers is due back in court June 30 for the next hearing in the case.
