Future of hip-hop rests in Detroit

The eyes of the hip-hop world focus on downtown Detroit this weekend. Rap's reigning king, Eminem, will host this weekend's second Detroit Hip-Hop Summit ?which combines panel discussions, a voter registration drive and related events, including an MC battle and an after-party.

Detroit's so-called hip-hop mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick, rap impresario and activist Russell Simmons, G Unit, D12 and, possibly 50 Cent and Kanye West, will be among the panelists.

The summit is from noon-4 p.m. Saturday at the Fox Theatre. Admission is $10 at the door, Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com or by phone, (248) 433-1515 or (248) 645-6666.
