Eminem to Host Detroit's 2004 Hip-Hop Summit
Today, The Hip-Hop Summit Action Network (HSAN), Russell Simmons and Dr. Benjamin Chavis announced that Eminem will be hosting Detroit's Hip-Hip Summit 2004.
"I know people been down on Eminem, but all I ever see is him giving back," Russell Simmons said in a released statement. "They can talk about me, but Eminem is a giver and I'm proud to work with him."
Co-chairs of the HSAN including Damon Dash, P. Diddy and Kevin Liles have all worked with Simmons and Chavis spreading the message across Amercia with the Hip-Hop Team Vote, which was launched one year ago at last year's Detroit Hip-Hop Summit. This upcoming weekend has been declared as "Hip-Hop Weekend" in Detroit by FM98 WJLB.
This year artists headlining with Eminem will be 50 Cent, G-Unit, D-12, Obie Trice, the Ying Yang Twins, Reverend Run of Run-DMC, Doug E. Fresh and Layzie Bone and many other.
"We're excited about returning to the city of Detroit and working again with Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick," Dr. Benjamin Chavis stated. "We intend to celebrate the evolution of hip-hop throughout the state of Michigan, and to encourage the largest youth voter registration in the state's history."
Other major companies that lending their support are Anheuser-Busch, Inc, Playstation2 and Pirelli, who are all sponsering the event.
It will take place on May 22nd from 12 noon until 4 p.m., at the Fox Theater, located at 2211 Woodward Avenue in Detroit.
